HP Tablet Dead, Who Can Challenge Apple?

The sudden disappearance of Hewlett-Packard Co TouchPad WebOS, after only seven weeks on the shelves was a reminder of how the tech giants have failed to take a bite out of Apple iPad.

Dell Streak 5 TouchPad ending in the cemetery of the tablet and weak sales for bids from several other suggests are required to follow.

"No, the only iPad tablet does not sell retail. And 'a clear message to the events of recent days," said Mark Gerber, an analyst at research firm in Boston, and Detwiler Fenton.

The tablets of others who do not click with consumers include Asustek Computer Eee Pad transformer and Xoom Motorola Mobility, which Google Inc. plans to buy.

Research in Motion playbook has received harsh criticism, and sales have been cowardly, but it will probably survive because it is the key to the strategy of RIM.

"I do not think RIM playbook to close the sale quickly, or leave the platform because RIM sees it coming," said Colin Gillis, an analyst at BGC Financial, New York.

Apple's rivals have not done better in the design of software for the tablets.

IOS software Apple tablet represented 61.3% of the tablet market in the second quarter, more than double the 30.1% is divided equally between Google's Android, its nearest competitor. Microsoft had put a share of 4.6% and 3.3% RIM, according to Strategy Analytics.

Competition comes

But the picture could soon change. Google's decision this week to buy the Motorola Mobility, a manufacturer of equipment, also potentially increase the bets against Apple, because it will give the leader of Internet devices to make their software - like Apple does.

Microsoft could also be a threat when released tablet software, code-named Windows 8, but this is probably only in the autumn of 2012.

"The ecosystem around Microsoft is the largest ecosystem of computers out there, so what makes the company more likely to get significant traction in the market for tablet," Gillis said BGC.

Microsoft said the software will run on a wide range of devices, from traditional laptops and tablets, and integrate the mouse and keyboard commands.

Amazon.com, the creator of the popular Kindle e-reader is also expected to announce plans to release a tablet this fall, offering a challenge to Apple.

Sebastian sales of up to 3 million copies in its first year, and said at the end outselling any other Android-based tablets Motorola and Acer, and could exceed the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Amazon-yet unnamed film a serious threat to Apple, as the popularity of the Kindle and the film, and music services, the company sells. Analysts also expect Amazon to support the price of the tablet, which could also increase sales.

"Amazon is widely regarded as a wildcard. Has the potential to be harmful," said analyst Ross Rubin of NPD.

Crowded market, Sony Corp., was not discouraged either. Consumer electronics giant is going at full speed to publish the first two tablets in the fall.

"We're going to see many competitors come and go," said Sony spokesman.

"We will bring the best of every asset at our disposal to bring:. Services of hardware, content and network"
